His fears come true when he finds a picture of himself as a youngster on a missing-persons website, proof that the people he’s called mom and dad his whole life are not his real parents. As he draws close to uncovering his true identity, Nathan becomes the target of assassins, forcing him to flee with his neighbor, Karen (Lily Collins), the only person he can now trust.

Trivia
  • The chase scene at PNC Park was filmed on August 22, 2010, during an actual game. The Pirates beat the Mets 2-1. John Singleton wanted to film a chase scene there, which was not in the script, with a small crew with Taylor Lautner doing his own stunts.
  • Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins met on the set and dated.
  • Shawn Christensen said that the story for the film was taken from a single idea of a teenager who sees a photo of himself on a missing persons website. He completed the first draft in two months.
  • In the hospital scene when Nathan dials 911, he gives his address as 2009 Clearwater Drive. This is a reference to The Twilight Saga, which Taylor Lautner (Nathan) stars in; 2009 being the year that The Twilight Saga: New Moon was released in theaters and Clearwater being the surname of characters Harry, Seth and Leah who appear in the films.
  • Nathan wears a Pittsburgh Pirates shirt, #21 with the name Clemente on the back. Roberto Clemente was a star player for the Pirates. He was the first Latin American to have 3000 hits, and the first Latin American elected into the Hall of Fame, posthumously. He won 12 golden gloves, 15 All-star selections, lifetime .317 batting average, and played in two winning World Series, being MVP in the ’71 series. He died on a flight to Nicaragua on the 31st of December, 1972, flying with emergency relief items to help after the earthquake there. The statue outside PNC park (which was possibly going to be named after Clemente before PNC bought the naming rights) – where Nathan leaves a ticket – is of Roberto Clemente.
  • The screenplay for this film was featured in the 2010 Blacklist; a list of the “most liked” unmade scripts of the year.
  • When Nathan is taking Karen to the hospital, a firetruck is shown going the opposite way on the bridge, presumably headed towards the remains of Nathan’s house. The camera then pans over a night shot of PNC Park, which alludes to the climactic confrontation between Nathan and Kozlow at PNC Park at the end of the film.
  • Freema Agyeman filmed a cameo role but it was removed during editing.
  • This is director John Singleton’s second PG-13 movie. The first was 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003).
Character Quotes
  • Karen: Hmmm… So I had to wait four years for you to ask me out?
Nathan: [laughs] Yeah… but you gotta admit, it was one pretty exciting first date.
    Karen: [giggles] Definitely.
  • Karen: Are we gonna die, Nathan?
    Nathan: No… I won’t let that happen.
  • [they kiss]
    Karen: W-w-wow.
    Nathan: What?
Karen: That’s better than middle school.
    [they kiss again]
Nathan: That’s ’cause I know what I’m doing now.
    [they kiss and embrace]
Karen: Ha… and no braces either.
[she giggles; they kiss; the train lurches; she giggles again; they kiss; he removes his jacket; they kiss more passionately; he lifts her up for her to straddle him as he sits; they kiss some more]
Karen: Ah… We should get some food.
    Nathan: [breathy] Yeah… I’m starving.
