Lily Covers ELLE UK

Lily is the cover star of ELLE UK! She will be featured in the magazine’s upcoming December 2021/January 2022 issue. Lily discusses fame, Emily in Paris and more.

Lily Collins Is Making Her Move

Lily Collins has been famous since she was a teen, garnering awards, accolades…and her fair share of column inches. After the enormous success of Emily in Paris, she tells Alice Wignall why she’s finally taking control of her own story

ELLE UK – It’s a grey morning in Soho when Lily Collins and I meet for breakfast. She flew in from LA the night before – the plane was delayed, Heathrow was a mess – and though she’s had some sleep, she definitely needs caffeine, because there’s this interview to do, not to mention a cover shoot. Fortunately Charlie – that is, Charlie McDowell, her very new husband of all of 16 days when we meet – has given the heads-up on a coffee spot not far from the hotel, so we head out into the chill of late September in London.

Lily for NYLON

Lily is Nylon magazine’s October cover star! Check out the interview and stunning photos below.

Once Upon A Time In Paris

NYLON – This year, Lily Collins was the face of two elaborate productions. The first is the bigger, bolder, and brasher sophomore season of Emily in Paris. The second: her rustic, Victorian-meets-Americana-inspired open-air wedding in September at a remote wooded resort on Colorado’s Dunton Hot Springs. The event was small, and nothing was fussy (although her Ralph Lauren gown did take almost 200 hours to make), and something about it felt epic.

Maybe that je ne sais quoi was the fact that Collins never saw the venue ahead of her big day. She was, of course, in Paris, where the 32-year-old had flown at the height of the pandemic to star in and produce the second season of a splashy, romantic series that many people said was too splashy and romantic, on location in a city whose joie de vivre was decidedly muted. When filming began on Season 2 in May, there were still 7 p.m. curfews, and only markets and pharmacies were open. In her off-hours, she was choosing a menu she couldn’t taste and decor for a wedding in a space she’d never seen.

Lily for W’s TV Portfolio

Lily Collins Sees Baking as a Form of Therapy

W MAGAZINE – The Emily in Paris star rises to the gluten-free, vegan dessert challenge.
For W’s second annual TV Portfolio, we asked 26 of the most sought-after names in television to pay homage to their favorite small-screen characters by stepping into their shoes.

“I’m playing the most American character I’ve ever played,” says Lily Collins, the star of Netflix’s hit comedy Emily in Paris. “I’ve never felt more American, but in my real life, I feel very British. And yet I felt so disconnected from my European side, having to be Emily.” Collins is speaking from Paris, where she has begun filming season 2 of the series—which is coming off of a recent Emmy nomination that left her and her costar Ashley Park in bits. “[We] were together on set in my apartment when she read her phone and said, ‘Were we? Are we? We were nominated for the Emmys!’ ” the actor recalls. “We didn’t know they were being announced, and then we just started screaming and had to yell, ‘Cut!’ ” Collins, who was born in Guildford, Surrey, in the English countryside, might star in a Paris-based show as an American girl, but her roots, she says, are firmly planted in the U.K. This is part of the reason she chose to honor The Great British Bake Off for W’s TV Portfolio, in which she embodies judge Prue Leith—also, because she herself loves to bake. “There are these specific chocolate chip cookies that I make, which I’ve been asked many times for the recipe,” she says of her signature dessert. “Eight years ago, I started Googling ideas, and at this point, it’s all just based on memory and sight.” We’d like to think she’d do well against Paul Hollywood’s judging eye.

Interview by Allie King

CONTENTMODE“Art is healing.” Lily Collins has a history of prioritizing healing in both her writing and acting. Now, as the world struggles together, this has proved to be what we’ve all been wanting and needing. In hopes to escape from the reality of 2020, people are turning to their streaming services for comfort and solace. If this is you, you have probably had Lily Collins on your screen at least once this year. Collins, with a long list of iconic roles, has enriched our screens time and time again this year: First by allowing us to laugh with her role as Emily in “Emily in Paris,” and now by being the supportive sidekick we all need, as Rita Alexander, in “Mank.” Both are now streaming on Netflix.

Lily in Los Angeles

Mank star Lily Collins opens up about her new film, celebrating her engagement at home, and what she thinks Emily Cooper would be doing in quarantine.

INSTYLE – This story, like many set in the never-ending stress dream that is 2020, begins with technical difficulties.

“I should be better at this point,” Lily Collins tells me when we finally manage to connect over Zoom. “I still find myself floundering,” she says, referring to the mechanics of our new normal: virtual interviews and FaceTime photoshoots, a once foreign vernacular that includes ring light settings and meeting room codes.

Despite the admitted at-home learning curve, Collins’s comfort with communication (of any form) is clear. Appearing on-screen in a pale pink sweater with shoulder cut-outs, her long brown hair parted down the middle and flowing unreservedly across her chest (the way the YouTube tutorial tells you it should — but it never does), she seems at-ease, eager even.
