Lily Collins and Álvaro Morte to Make West End Debuts in Bess Wohl’s Barcelona
PLAYBILL – Screen stars Lily Collins and Álvaro Morte will make their West End debuts in Bess Wohl’s Barcelona later this year.
Directed by Lynette Linton, the seductive thriller will play the Duke of York’s Theatre for a strictly limited 12-week run, between October 21 and January 11, 2025.
Collins (Emily in Paris, Mank, To The Bone) and Álvaro Morte (Money Heist, Wheel of Time, Immaculate) will star in the U.K. premiere of the two-hander, which has been in development since 2013. Centering on an American tourist and a handsome Spaniard, the unlikely pair suddenly find themselves at the center of a personal and political catastrophe when their carefree one-night stand doesn’t go to plan.
Said Collins, “It has been a childhood dream of mind to perform in the West End and I’m hugely excited to make my stage debut in Bess’ exciting play, Barcelona. Working with this team has truly been a gift and I cannot wait for audiences to be taken on a thrilling journey as the play unravels. I knew the moment I finished reading the script, I had to play Irene.”
Morte added, “The London theatre scene is a vibrant and exhilarating canvas for fresh, groundbreaking work. I am thrilled and honoured to be a part of this captivating new play, marking my West End debut. I’m looking forward to bringing Barcelona to life and sharing it with audiences.”
Linton will guide a creative team featuring set and costume design by Frankie Bradshaw; lighting by Jai Morjaria; composition and sound design by Duramaney Kamara and Xana; video design by Gino Ricardo Green; wig, hair, and makeup design by Cynthia De La Rosa; casting by Heather Basten and Jim Carnahan; movement and intimacy direction by Shelley Maxwell; vocal coaching by Hazel Holder; and dramatherapy by Wabriya King.
Barcelona is produced by ATG Productions, Bad Robot Live and Gavin Kalin Productions.

‘Maxxxine’: Ti West, Lily Collins Shock Fans with Surprise Screening of New Horror Movie
THR – It was supposed to be a double feature of West’s killer thrillers ‘X’ and ‘Pearl.’ But then the script was flipped.
Ti West and A24 pulled off a killer surprise Thursday night, unveiling an early screening of their upcoming slasher movie Maxxxine to a group of unsuspecting horror fans.
The evening was billed as a double feature of West’s X horror series, which includes X and Pearl, the movies that thrust Mia Goth into the role Hollywood’s nouveau killer queen. The sold-out evening brought out film nerds and horror geeks of all shapes and hairstyles — some dressed up as Pearl, some wearing Pearl T-shirts, while others sported T-shirts with logos and characters ranging from X-Men to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘s Rick Dalton.
During a Q&A in between the two screenings, moderator and Maxxxine actress Lily Collins and West suddenly switched gears. Collins asked how many in the audience had seen Pearl — and almost all raised their hands. She then posited the question: if everyone had seen that movie, why see it again if they could just see Maxxxine? The crowd cheered in the affirmative, although it was clear the audience didn’t think she was serious. When West confirmed, saying, “You’re going to be the first to see this movie,” the crowd went wild, cheering and whistling. Some gasped and covered their mouths.
“Just don’t spoil it,” West said.
It was supposed to be an X & PEARL double feature but during a Q&A, filmmaker Ti West pulls a fast one, saying the crowd won’t be watching Pearl but rather his upcoming film, MAXXXINE. Crowd goes wild… pic.twitter.com/zVC4tbCons
